Funny someone mentioned Punky Meadows (English Setters, Cherry People and Angel). I went to high school with Punky, the Grimes Brothers, and Dave Alves. I still have the high school newspaper that shows the Setters and announces an upcoming gig. I also have the records they gave me. I lost track of them when I got drafted. I did a little research when I was still living in Virginia and it said Punky is running a tanning salon near D.C. Mike

ha L:

angel is a so so 70s band , have that live LP as well.
they were huge back in the KISS days...
i did like the fact that they had keys tho , & greg giuffria went on to form his own little metal band of same name.
they were prob better than angel , lol.

i have the cherry people LP as well & LOVE it , total psych pop ... "and suddenly" was a great single.
this LP is totally worth getting , see it alot on ebay cheap.
i cant believe you went to school w/ him willy !
too cool , what was he like ?

starcastle are great as well , have thier 1st three. i dont mind the blatant rip off , as they are still talented enuff to pull it off & the tunz dont get boring...
lots goin on.

oh , all the good stuff is between `67 & `70 ...Smile

tom

Yes, I have the Cherry People 45. Wasn't this a cover of a Left Banke album cut?

hey !

sure was : AMG says :

Originally written and recorded by the songwriter and lead singer of the Left Banke ( Michael Brown and Bert Sommer) in the waning days of that group under its name. It was quickly withdrawn by the protest of the other members of the group before it could make any real chart impact. The label, Smash/ Mercury, realized that it was a potential hit record, and re-recorded it under the banner the Cherry People. They weren't too far off the mark, as it reached number 45 in the summer of 1968. Certainly not on the level of the earlier, more artful Left Banke singles such as "Walk Away Renee" (not even close), "And Suddenly" is a buoyant slice of bouncy, neo- bubblegum pop. The somewhat superior, pseudo- Left Banke version is available on its anthology, There's Gonna Be a Storm, while the "hit" version is on Varese Sarabande's fine singles compilation Sunshine Days, Volume Five.

Odd ... The Cherry People 45 (that I have) is an original on Heritage, distributed by M-G-M, not by Mercury. At the time, they were two separate companies.
