This is a very minor notation, but I figured what the hey...

My copy of the Steve Miller Band's "Number 5" lp is a little different than usual...I think.

The Goldmine guide only lists the lp with the "ST" prefix. Mine has an "SKAO" prefix. What really caught my attention was the writing at the bottom of the label: "Manufactured under license from Capitol Records Inc." I checked another green Capitol label I have, and the writing is totally different.

Does this mean it was distributed through the Capitol Record Club? Nothing on the cover would lead me to think so, but the label looks a little different.

For those who made it this far, here's a pic:

The "8" between prefix and record no. indicates this is a Capitol Record Club issue of a Capitol release. The SKAO prefix = stereo single-disk in a 'gatefold' (usually Unipak-style) cover at the same list price as a 'regular' (ST-prefix) single-disk cover.

FWIW, CRC pressings of Capitol LPs (that I am familiar with) added 500000 to Capitol's release no. For example, a CRC edition of this Steve Miller Band LP would have had the Capitol prefix (SKAO or ST, depending on cover type) followed by 500436. Additionally, the fine print on the labels indicate they are CRC issue.

The 8-prefix indicates a Capitol Record Club pressing of a Capitol title. Some of them are scarcer than their commercial stock counterparts. Also, some have different label designs than a stock copy.
