All I can say is that like most 80's bands, they only did one or two songs (if any) that I like. So, I'd say average.

In my humble personal opinion they're one of the most influential American bands of the last decade! They were good - that's a fact! Nevertheless the time is right for 'em to split.

Fables of the Reconstruction was a terrific LP; people who haven't listened to it enough times for it to "sink in" probably shouldn't bother opining about the band.

Definitely had some great material but for me its been a long time since they appealed with anything new. Not that I really gave it a listen.

Rapid Eye Movements had some good records early on, in my opinion, but that was in the 80's and haven't heard much lately that I've liked. I'm sure they made millions $$$$$$$.

there are some bands, that i want to hear everything they ever recorded. there are other bands, for whom i only need a "Best Of" compilation. R.E.M fall pretty strongly into the latter category, for me. i enjoyed some of their earlier material but i have to say, my interest was on the wane pretty early on.
