Funny, I have used the Memorex CD-R music without any problem and ones that I burned 9 to 10 years ago are still good. Were the problems with those made for computer writers only?

On the Fujifilm CD-RW's, there have been some reviews on the net saying that they do not work on older CD recorders, something to do with a new formulation.

No, issues were with both types. And I am especially talking about early Ritek made media. Ritek got better later on and upgraded to good. A tip, avoid made in China or made in India media. Those countries tend to make substandard CD-R media. Most of the remaining Taiwanese suppliers make decent discs. Verbatim except for ValuLife, MAM-A/MAM-E, and JVC/Taiyo Yuden media is still the best available. Of these MAM-A does make CD-R Music discs which are superb. Maxell and Sony Music CD-R tends to be good. Memorex and TDK now are equal in quality.

As in TDK got worse or Memorex got better?

Both, Memorex got better and TDK isn't what they used to be in media, though they are still OK.
