I bought a few records today at a flea market and the guy selling them gave me one for next to nothing because of a flaw.It has a small bump in the vinyl, barely noticable and appears on both sides of the disc and he said that this would cause it to skip.I haven't played it yet and was wondering what is the cause of this and if theres any way of rectifying it?The record itself is quite sought after and collectable and it would be worth trying if theres a method that could work.

Nope. That's a pressing defect.

iI've tried posting pictures on this site several times but it always tells me that the file is too large, even when I try with my camera phone so I don't know what's going on there. The record is called Phalus Dei and it's the debut album from Amon Duul II.It's an original German release from 1969 and it's regarded as one of the first "Krautrock" albums.I bought it from a German guy who offloading all his old records and also picked up Can Tago Mago and two early Kraftwerk records, their self titled debut and Ralph und Florian.Anyway back to the record bubble. It's a tiny little sphere, you'd only really notice it under a light.Havent listened to the record yet I'll have to give it a
clean as it looks like it hasen't been played in years.o

No way to fix the bubble, but it may be irrelevant. Sometimes they have no effect on the sound and sometimes they will make a slight squeaking noise. I've never run across any that skipped.

I've played it just now and the bump dosen't seem to affect play at all.Really is a killer album.

Nice find. If it doesn't affect the sound, then you got a nice deal. I have found albums with similar pressing bubbles. They play right through without a tick, though!

i had a Troggs album with a pimple, it played thru it okay on one TT (i probably added an extra
gram of tracking force), but when i did the same thing on a different TT the goddamn needle
would go airborn off that mutha... other than the pimple the damn thing looked UNPLAYED.
And that's not the only zit i've encountered on an otherwise perfect disc...
Just my 2c, but a bump in the vinyl road ain't exactly real healthy on a decent stylus...
Spin the platter with a close eyeball, while burning/taping, & frame the cvr for yer mancave!!
