So I went to a house today that had guesstimate 2k-3k records. They came from the house of a record store which was in business for several decades. Plenty of mold on covers, the handful of discs I looked at didn't seem moldy persay. Most look played but not beat.
Most of the labels were rca, columbia, some decca, command, a few remington. I didn't see any blues, saw some stuff like harry james, bing, doris day etc. There are maybe 1k classical- 10" sets, 10" in books, mono lps, 7" sets (33s? ) in boxes. So are there any real hot artists I should be looking for? Most everything is before 1960.
Which leads me a bit off topic- lots of 1949 & 1950 columbia stuff- with lots of cutey, quirky doodle drawings. Is there some titles/ cat numbers of the andy warhol stuff. I just quickly flipped through maybe 20 of these- I recognized few of the labels (and I thought I had seen quite a few). Not sure, but I thought I saw an AW on a character's leg on the cover.
If anyone can throw some thoughts out, wether on the classical, the popular stuff, or the warhol, it would be great- thanks-m

Probably Alex Steinweiss covers.

You should take violin records, and possibly cello records, if there are any. The only RCA 45s of value are the Milstein sets. There is a lot of collectible Remingtons and Westminsters, but you have to know which ones.

The easiest way to learn is to go to eBay, and select classical that sold from US sellers. It's the same records over and over again.

Hi Annaloog & V1. I rushed through the records because I'm the last chance buyer. I probably didn't mention- most of the records had been really tightly and neatly stored vertically.. They had been placed so tightly- they were hard to pull out individually.Probably next week I will go over and make a deal to take any/ all. But between the smell, baby wanting her parking spot back, and the basement being full, I'm considering a more precision approach vs. grab all. The downside is- the rest will go away forever. Annaloog, I thought most of the Steinweiss covers have his name on them? V1- There was a pretty good stack of remingtons. There was also quite a few cetra boxes. I do remeber seeing a enesco. On another note, as I forgot the label- was there anything special starting with the cat letters "df" ? I remember seeing quite a few. Does the earlier stuff still require top condition, or does rarity compensate some? Thanks (again) to you both- m

Ps - is there any real interest in the big band jazz / crooner stuff? About 1/2 of all the records are these. Very appreciated.

I'm played. I have to go back in a week or so. Not sure of condition( besides mold) - the 3 box enesco continental set, a few enesco on remington, a lincoln series 50 record changer, and a ge "bookcase" radio. One of the racks I went through turned out to be mostly opera. Pics in the next day or 2-m

Not sure what you're getting at. Those Enescos bring big $$ on the classical collector market.

Hi V1- I haven't really looked at them. With the continental set- I glanced at one disc and it seemed to be in just fair condition. I probably should have posted the lincoln record changer in the recent finds thread. It plays a disc on both sides.

If the link doesn't work, anyone interested in a pretty neat player should search youtube "lincoln series 50". Please note the one I snagged is probably a project at best.
