Hi-

I really need help please:
I have a Bob Dylan U.S. white label Columbia Records test pressing
of the album "Slow Train Coming" ?
I want to know if anyone has seen this, or knows if it exists...

It is not listed at the Dylan searchingforagem.com web site.
I do not mean the white label promo copy - this is a test pressing disc.
The matrix is PAL-36120-1D and PBL-36120-2D
I want to make sure it is real and not a boot...
There is a white label U.K. test pressing LP, I have that one.
I just would love to have confirmation on this American Dylan
test pressing.

Thank you for any help or information.

Bruce

I would assume they do exist. Can you put up a label shot?

On second thought I doubt the matrix would be that high on a test press. Even the wlp are below 1D-2D.......Seems like a test press would be 1A-2A but I'm just guessing. Is it in a blank cover or does it have the regular sleeve?

Test pressings are used in various steps of the manufacturing process as far as I know and from what I read.

I think 1D and 2D are numbers that designate it comes form the fourth set of lacquers cut. Its possible they cut a few sets of laquers the same day to send them to different pressing plants.

Lets say a pressing plant received those metal parts to press copies for the day of release, they would make a few test pressing to check the final result would be ok and maybe that's what you get.

My computer is down and I'm on this iPad.

Test pressings are made whenever a new stamper is prepared for production. WLP copies have no correlation with test pressings since they are not manufactured for every stamper.

So in theory a wlp 1A should be better quality then a test press 1D ....correct? Since it is closer to the master.
