Many Stones lp's also came in box sets, same with the Beatles. This probably means that these ones did not come in those boxes.

It refers to whether or not the Decca logo on the LP label has a box around it or not...unboxed came first, and are therefore slightly more desirable.

Unboxed / boxed labels can also refer to some early issue US London labels as well as the UK issued Decca labels. The unboxed London labels occurred in the 1st four Rolling Stones albums: England's Newest Hit Makers, 12 x 5, Now and Out of our Heads. This applied to both mono and stereo releases. There are some label variations which are detailed in the link below.

http://www.beatzenith.com/the_rolling_stones/rslplabels.htm

The UK releases on Decca had the unboxed label variation, both grooved and ungrooved, through roughly 1969: Rolling Stones, Rolling Stones No. 2, Out of our Heads, Aftermath, Big Hits, Between the Buttons, Satanic Majesties Request, Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed and Big Hits Through the Past Darkly. The unboxed mono labels applied to all of the titles mentioned while the stereo unboxed labels did not begin until Out of our Heads. See the link below and click on the album title for the label variations.

      Yep! That's it - mate .

The German issues for instance had a maroon label with gold lettering and the first pressings came with a more oval box, later issues had a rectangle box.
