I haven't seen much on label variations. (Search "Federal Records" sometime Wink )

I've seen a few others on ebay but mine seems a little "bluer". Although in person not as blue as the scan appears.

I do not like the lettering on "Vocal by JOHN LEE HOOKER", and the positioning of "HIGH"

I'm not sure what you mean by "Vocal by John Lee Hooker" the typeset?
The "High" appears a little off center. I scanned the b side the H and the end of high and f in fidelity seem a little better centered. Hopefully it will give a little better idea of color when I post it.

Ok it must have been the color in your original pic that threw me off. This looks better.

On most of the real Federal labels ,the "wand" in the letter "F" reaches up to the labels extremity...But we have seen pressing plant variations ,haven't we????

Hey Ks,

This re-issue is indicated as such by the 1975 date at the bottom of the label.

We are discussing actual counterfeits sans the re-issue pressing date.

Also, while pressing plant variations exist most certainly, such as Scot's example, if a Federal label shows all three faults as mentioned, the probability of it being an un-marked counterfeit are very high.

Of course these are only quick guidelines on how pick through fakes, a detailed hands on study of an authentic label is the sure fire way to become physically familiar with a label.

Yeah I saw this was one of Stardays/Gusto's copies....but this one is real and the wand in the F comes up to the label edge

On the subject of Federal, any idea what year they started pressing their records with that lip around the outer edge? They seem to be one of the few who were doing that back in the 60's.
