Remember that the first time any of us white kids in Nebraska heard anything resembling rap it was probably in Blondie's Rapture at the "Fun-Time Skate Center". Later Kurtis Blow, Grand Master Flash, Melle Mel and others starting filtering through. Run DMC pretty much blew the lid off when they covered (not really even sampled) Walk This Way.

Recently though, it seems sampling has gotten alittle out of hand. It's not just a riff here and there it's essentially taking the studio master and adding a new more dancable beat. I've heard rap songs on the radio recently now sampling other rap songs.

HA! I myself spent more than a few Friday nights and birthday parties at the skating rink in the late 1970's.

The surest sign of a weak DJ is one who will lift the entire riff from a really popular song. How hard is it to get people to love a song they already love?

I've heard a few "rappers sampling rappers" songs the past few years, most of them were sampling Run DMC, which to me is just paying homage. Come to think of it, Public Enemy was sampling vocals from Run DMC way back in 1989.[/b]

btw, if you're satisfied with the record I sold you let me know. I've got some old school hip-hop and 70's jazzfunk vinyl I'm looking to unload.

rappers sampling rappers is nothing new. almost every dj premier beat has a chorus consisting of other rappers quotable lines.

I just noticed something weird about that site. It has sugarhill gang sampling chic. (Before Chic released good times?)

Both songs were released in 1979 so that is an eff-up.

Technically, it wasn't a sample anyway. Sugarhill had a house band and they used to play the bites on those early rap records. Doug Wimbish was on bass, Keith LeBlanc on drums and Skip Mc Donald on guitar.

Wimbish associates with the P-Funkers a bit and was in Tackhead and Living Color. He is a red hot bass-player.

My belated response.
