I'm a little late with this poll, anyway. I'm in it for the music in the first instance, it's what I have voted for. But, that's just half the truth. I'm also in it for the artwork, and I've launched a website regarding cover art. On the other hand I'm a completist when it comes to certain artists. An additional kick is to discover genres, I haven't been into before.

Another pleasure is to browse through my cabinet either Lp's or singles, that's a different kind of fascination. It makes me proud and happy that I own a fairly big bunch of decent recordings.

I'm also in love with my hi-fi set up with my 'favorite toys' and I love to watch it while listening to a vintage vinyl recording.

I'm afraid, there's a little of an addictive characteristic in my relation to vinyl recordings. Embarassed

Yes part obsession and part completist and most certainly for the music BUT I cast my vote for the Artwork which seems sadly under-represented in this poll.

In my record collection Artwork is equally important to the music.

I don't really like the term "collector".
I started buying records about 1964 because I liked the music. I have aquired a library of records since then. I think people that buy stamps to look at are collectors.

I looked back at my original post in this thread from a mere four days after I first joined and I can't say my reasons have changed that much. Though lately I've been more careful in taking chances on stuff, and when I get time I'm definitely going to get rid of as many of the records that are sitting in my basement as I can. I know metrognome has a great collection because he only has the stuff that he really really likes, and while I won't be able to do quite that, I know I can definitely get rid of quite a few records that I'll only listen to a few times. I mean not all of The Police's albums are 5 stars but I gotta have them anyway (on CD for backup too Very Happy)

If only I lived closer, I could help you in your quest to lighten the load. Wink

Trust me, the ones I'm going to get rid of, I doubt anyone on this forum would want in their collection. I'm probably going to just donate them to Value Village.

I think you underestimate the extent of some of our fetishes/compulsions!

I collect them for a couple of reasons:

1. They're cheap and easy to come by.
2. I like older music, and it's much easier to find older albums on vinyl than on CD.
