This last week I had a very interesting single come winging its way to my offices ( I use that to save being OUT at home )

It is a RARE UK gospel single.............any gospel single inthe UK is rare.but this one has the added advantage of being on ORIOLE AMERICAN.a favourite UK label of mine

The tracks were taken from the SAVOY catalogue and feature

MARION WILLIAMS and the Stars of Faith

Tracks are

JOY TO THE WORLD .................and ....................O COME ALL YE FAITHFULL

Just got half way through the first cut on my newly acquired self-titled The Heralds Quartet on Imperial (Sacred Records) and was really into the almost doowop sound. It reminded me of Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. THEN, THEN, I realized that I was plaing a 33 lp at 45 speed.

After I stopped banging my head against the wall, I tried the same record at 33. Still great, still very doo wopish.

Ive just nailed this one for 10 dollars. R. H. Harris was some singer! This one was released around 1953-54 after he left the Soul Stirrers.

Ive never noticed that red or coloured vinyl not sounding as good as black. On the other hand Ive never had the chance to compare two mint copies.

Ive just bought me another gospel album, The Best Of Brother Joe May on Nashboro. Its still sealed, but I have no intention on keeping it that way. Brother Joe sure could sing. And Jackie Verdell too!

Back in 2007 (page one) I note I was waxing lyrical about Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Perhaps it's time to show some labels from that list. Here's a start.

Very nice, Ben! Sister Rosetta is still sadly underrepresented in my collection. I only have this EP.
