My brother came to visit this weekend and brought me a new toy! A Thorens TD-160 with a Shure cartridge! He bought it at a yard sale about a year ago for some ridiculously low price because it has a hum in it. Well, he decided he doesn't want to pay to have it repaired so he gave it to me! I think all it needs is a new set of RCA plugs. Other than the hum, which I can get to go away long enough to play some music, it works great!! I'm very pleased!!

( ( ( ( ( ((((((( Cool

A nice gift, this 'Thorens'. You shouldn't give it away, I own a (TD-160 Super)] since 1975, I cared well for it and, it serves me more than well since that time. Truly reliable with no reason to complain. Shocked Wink

I've got a TD-124 as my main table. That is one sweet TD-160 you've got there. Wish I got gifts like that!!

Nice! I keep fantasizing about finding one of these at a garage sale one day, but so far, no luck.

I believe the hum is a mismatched cartridge.

I actually think it's his conscience saying he should send that TT on to me! Twisted Evil

Thanks for the tip dkurtis but I think I've been able to get the hum out by cleaning the rca plugs and just working them around in the inputs for a while. So far so good. The table sounds great and the hum is gone. Let's hope it stays gone.

I picked up a nice Garrard for $10 at a Goodwill that had a hum. Bought new RCA plugs at wal-mart for $14 and that cured it.

Nice Unit!
