is there a surefire way to tell if a record is visually warped, when it might be just slightly warped? of course, with a lot of records it`s easy to see one way or the other. but i`ve looked others over and don`t seem sure. so how can you tell if they`re essentially 100 percent flat or close to it?

ve heard that one before. so how do you view the record while it`s turning to make an assessment? also, will using a turntable mat make a difference one way or the other?

Maybe not "surefire", but I look at used records from the edge before purchasing. Moderate to bad warps are usually fairly obvious.

that`s the way i look at them too...sometimes with a slight warp i can straighten it out. if a record has a slight warp that doesn`t affect play, what does it grade..fair-good...

Watch the tone arm from the side. If it rises and falls, then the record is warped. Then watch the arm from above, it it moves left to right, the pressing is off centre.
