I used to think that doo-wop is a mushy and overly romantic indulgment, but then my head tuned into it when I realised that it is so closely knitted to rock n roll and I started to love it seriously.
What appeals to me know is the innocence, warmth and unpretentiousness attitude for the "thing" they were doing. For an European listener, it is a pretty good way to romanticize 50s America.

The Flamingos' I Only Have Eyes For You is absolutely fantastic. Here's an response to the Billy Ward & Dominos 60 Minute Man:

Also, in regards to the Cadillacs single, here's a great later 80s take from it. It does not have that great guitar solo, but these guys are as fun to watch them as to hear them:

Actually the correct and complete title for the song is...

(When your heart's on fire) Smoke gets in your eyes

Im having this doo wop craze at the moment and buying quite a lot, the Turbans f.i. Did Herald ever issue any of their records on red wax? When You Dance, perhaps? That would be something! I have another Turbans question; On my Disc Jockey Copy of Herald 495 Valley Of Love b/w Bye & Bye it says The Turbans featuring Al Banks. None of their earlier or later releases had that "featuring Al Banks" line. Anyone know why?

I posted a picture of this album on the Super Collectibles but thought I'd still brag about it here:
The "5" Royales - Dedicated to You on King 580. Both seams are split, but the front and back graphics still make VG-VGp. The disc has seen years of play and has all those spiffy cracks and pops BUT it still sounds great to me. Very Happy
