Falk, glad you enjoyed the pics (I had a feeling you would Very Happy ). The photo that you have provided is very well done. that's a colorized Black & White photo. Here is the earliest example of that Ella pic that I know from Jet Magazine, 1953...

Thank you for these additional informations, now I know the exact year this pic has been shot.

By the way, a humble question, what do you think about the rooster painting I've posted? I hope I haven't offended you. Wink

As it happens, i neglected to mention that the pic I posted of Ella and the one that you posted were taken at the same photo session, sometime presumably, in 1953.

Absolutely no offense taken. I have posted several Rooster photos in reference to myself here as have others on the RCG. It's all in good fun. I believe that you are the first to post an actual painting though, which I think is great.

I feel relief, and I'm glad you like it. I bought it when I was in NYC in March last year, I simply couldn't pass and had to think of you immediately.

You have no idea how difficult it is to sit for a portrait like that. The artist had me there for days holding that pose. it was gruelling.

I was digging through some more pics to WOW you guys when i came accross this one...

and while it's not often that i can further illustrate these photos, here's a youtube video some of you may enjoy. It's not the same band as in the photo. The video is of the 1934 Musical Queens. 1000 women auditioned to be a part of Spitalny's bands, and what musicians! These ladies could play! and sing... and one even tap danced.

You should definately take a look at this. It's not all jazz, but rather, a mix of styles of the times.

Here's an album from a recent score that included 800+ Jazz LPs. I love this cover art!
