I prefer shelves. Ideally, I would like bins for 45's and shelves for everything else, but right now I have everything on shelves. I'll echo the space reasoning here.

Wow, my wife and I were just having this discussion over dinner. Yesterday I picked up about 260+ albums from a guy making room for a remod project and have them stacked on the living room floor. Would love to have the "casual" space to store all of my records and stereo equipment on shelves. My set up is in our formal living room now, just doesn't work.

    Hello Stlydan,

I sneak in right here to show you my way of storage, as we're in a tenement, what's quite usual over here in Germany, I have to compromise with my love and that's the way we agreed. Everything you see is placed in our formal living room! I just thought, that this might give you an idea of what other members do without disturbing their ladies.

Firstly, I wanna Welcome you to the 'Guild' as well. Thanks for your kind comment, but don't worry, I've been collecting for more than 40 years now, and during this time each collection has plenty of time to grow and grow and . . .
Sometimes I guess it has grown too big already.

    Masliko,

first of all, Welcome to the 'Guild', it's always nice to see a new member posting. Another 'thank you' for the compliments regarding my closet and the sideboard, it's appreciated. I'm forced to construct something in addition, 'cause what you've seen is nearly bursting. More storing option is needed. 'A never ending story'.
