This record came out of Pittsburgh and incorporates great group harmonies with a stunning orchestral arrangement by Lenny Martin and his orchestra. In my view, one of the greatest singles of the latter 1950's. This is not an easy song to sing, yet the singer's (Jimmy Beaumont, I think) execution is perfect. Also the interplay between the strings and the piano is something I never tire of hearing. The sound quality is iffy but I can deal with it. Because of changing styles, they donít make records like this anymore and thatís a tragedy.

Some of the high notes were sung by the late Donna Groom, along with Jimmy..... A super mix of talent and orchestration for the Skyliners and they are still performing today....

Enjoy the music....

It's an overused word but it definitely applies - that tune is a classic. Bill, if you have a copy of This I Swear, by The Skyliners, listen carefully to the bridge of the song (the section that begins with - "I promise you that I...."). They sang it in 5-part harmony so that no other group would be able to copy their arrangement. Now, that's something you don't hear often at all, extremely difficult to do properly. And I agree with you completely - group harmony singing of this caliber is a lost art form.

They also swing the heck out of Pennies From Heaven with a terrific big band arrangement.

Hi,

Just one "B I G" correction!

Original Skyliners were: Jimmy Beaumont,Wally Lester,Jack Taylor,Joe Verscharen & Janet Vogel!
(Janet sang on the original "SINCE I DON'T HAVE YOU", by the Skyliners!)
Janet died in 1980 @ 37 ! (suicide)
Original member Joe Verscharen,died of Cancer in 2007 @ 67 !
Co-Writer of "Since....."/Producer/Manager: Joe Rock died in 2000 @ 63!

Donna Groom still sings with the Skyliners today,(as I'm told),and has a GREAT voice!
(I know! I heard her in person!)
(I don't think Donna would like being called, the"late" Donna Groom!)

I had the pleasure of meeting the Skyliners, some 10 years ago, backstage in Atlantic City,NJ!
The Skyliners I met,were Jimmy Beaumont,Donna Groom,Nick Pociask & David Pioch.
(I got an autographed 8" X 10" black & white glossy.)
All of thr Group, were very professional and very personable!
The Slyliners Show, that I saw that night, was a wonderful experience!
The Group did a great job!

THANKS!

Hey johnnyrocket,

You are correct that Janet Vogel was the original girl singer for the Skyliners....I was thinking about the group when I say the post and quickly replied with the incorrect name...My apologies to Ms. Groom and for posting before thinking about my response.... Thank you for bringing the mistake to my attention....
