Hello Folks

I am wondering if anyone here got some UK Verve sleeves from 66 and 67. I ask because I would like to know what price the backside list. It could be different for these years.
I wrote something about this on my webpage, you will also find pictures there.

It is hard to be sure that the sleeves are on the original record. I have looked and no catalogue numbers have been written on the sleeevs ( which shops sometimes wrote on them ) .........but I have MANY more sleves with 6 shillings on them. ........suggesting to me that the change took place towards the end of the run

Here is a catalogue of VERVE releases to help you

I will try and track down my copy of Big Leg Emma but I'm pretty sure that the sleeve shown on the Zappa Frenzy site is the same sleeve as I have.

This might be worth looking at

I'm still looking for my copy of Big Leg Emma but the single was released in September 1967. Purchase tax on goods was increased in March 1968. I oresume that's when singles when up to at 7/3 although I have found a MGM sleeve with the ad for EMI record Tokens at 7/3 with a retailer's rubber stamp indicating the actual cost of the single as seven shillings four and a half pence.

Given that the Black Verve distributed by EMI label was discontinued in the UK in 1968 I'm saying there's no way a 1966 release could come in a sleeve marked 7/3.

I have been collecting UK 45's since 1958

When I first stated buying them I think that the price for UK recordings was Six shillings and four pence and for US recordings Six shillings and eight pence....not long afterwards the price has reduced to six shillings........that was back in 1959

I do not think that the price remained at six shillings all those years...just that EMI who sold the tokens left the basic price the same

Some of my original sleeves were marked with the price by the shop that sold them..............but there are a lot of them to look through to find the " odd " one with a price

I will see what I can see

Thanks a lot for the help. I am also very sure that the 66 release didn't come with a 7/3 marked sleeve. I asume that the previous owner just found a sleeve to put the record in.

Will try to find correct Verve sleeves for my UK Zappa singles. Did all UK black label/promo Verve singles from 66/67 come with these kind of sleeves?

I have been searching ebay.co.uk and there are a few Verve singles with sleeve for around 5. Thats an ok price for me to pay for a company sleeve. I think I only need 4 or 5 of them.

I have another sleeve for my Big Leg Emma. Here is a link: http://www.zappafrenzy.com/singles/1967-Big_Leg_Emma-Why_Don%27t_You_Do_Me_Right/Big_Leg_Emma-Why_Don%27t_You_Do_Me_Right.html#verve_uk_solid
Since you collect UK Verve singles, maby you could have a look at this sleeve, and share some thoughts?

I only collect Zappa UK Verve singles. so I do not know too much about the UK Verve industry.

I also wonder why so many UK singles was released with and without push-out center for the same single?
