Another monkey wrench:

when there are 75 sales of an item in a given (reasonably verifiable) condition in a certain price range -- let's say $50 to $75, but the three highest-priced dealers in the country get $400, what is the "real" price? I have supported listing what ordinary people can get for their own items.

That's not so hard to figure out. The only "real" price is one the You are willing to spend on it. Other folks might want to spend more (or less), but at the end of the day, they don't matter. Can anybody here admit to voluntarily paying more for an item just because everybody else felt it was worth it? If a record ordinarily sells for $350, but you find ane for $5.00, are you going to make up the $345 difference to the Seller of the $5.00 copy?

There is NEVER any guarantee of what ANYTHING is worth. Past offerings are of no guarantee to what future offerings SHOULD bring. Price Guides even go so far as to state that more in recent years. The prices in those guides should more reflect common offerings, a range where many copies are being offered at, rather than extreme deals where only a couple of buyers are willing to take an extreme plunge.

This thread gives great perspective to newer or casual ebay sellers. Very appreciated!
