Stumbled across this Gospel lp that sold for a decent chunk of change:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Famous-Caravans-LP-Where-He-Leads-Me-Gospel-3080-/221079799972?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item33796208a4

Wonder why this one went so high? I've heard that some Gospel records are getting a bit pricey. Personally, I've started buying African American Gospel lately (if they're cheap), but that's for the music. Some nice Soul to be found there.

Looks like The Caravans with Albertina Walker get a bit of a premium, although there are only a few on popsike.

I've bought a few black gospel LPs over the years and there can be some damn good soulful vocals on them. Nothing worse than a "whitebread gospel" LP though in my opinion (musically and monetarily).

How about this one. I was in this thrift store first, and went right over this. Had I noticed that it was Tamla, I would have bought it. It said gospel on the cover, so I just kept on thumbing through albums.

The person that bought this and then sold it went to the store the next day, and knew what he was looking at. Oh well.

Wow! Sorry you missed that one.

I agree with Chad. I've gotten into looking at Gospel lps whenever I'm browsing. If the artists are African American, and the price is right, I usually give it a shot. It's not all gold, but there are some great performances to be found.

Best to stick with 1950s through early 1970s with small group backing bands and solo singers rather than mass choirs, but there are exceptions.
