I love having a bands discography. Hearing their first work to their last is interesting and lets you understand their music imo. I do this for well like groups, not for everything.

I find it depends on the band. Most bands, imo, don't maintain a high quality of song writing throughout a lengthy career. Of course there are some bands, like Pink Floyd say, where yes, I want to complete the discography.

:: I have complete discography of some bands in CDs, and the best of them on vinyl. SOme of them I got'em before gettin' onto collecting. I keep a list of the Lps that I still gotta buy and In 12 years I've bought only 45 of a 600 albums I want...this gonna take forever. Cool

this is a solid reason to hang on to your old record guides (Umphred's debut '85 book comes to mind- indispensable).

Sadly, space does not permit me to hang on to anything but what I really like. Even if I could I would struggle with the logic of keeping an album that I'm never going to listen to just to have a complete run of their output. I'm more of a "let someone who'll enjoy it have it, and pass it on" kind of philosopher.

I can't really think of any band where I would want every disc. Even the Beatles did some music I just don't care for.

So, I cherry pick what I like.
