So Ive been going through these couple hundred records I came into the last month or two. Typically when I find one that someone might want, I will look at the vinyl. If I see even 1 llittle scuff/scratch/mark I will put it aside and not try to sell it. Am I being too hard on myself? Will people buy records with 1 little mark, or 1 little scratch?

I will obviously let the person know beforehand of the condition. I'm just wondering if I will be wasting my time trying to sell them.

Absolutely. That's why there is a grading system. To help define how good or bad the condition actually is.

Thanks for the link. When they say.....

"VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience."

.... I wont know if it affects listening experience since I dont have a record player to test them.

That's why you state that in your ad. Most sellers state "visually graded" as most people don't have time to listen to each album before selling.

Probably most records listed are only visually graded. But if you're going to continue with listing, get yourself a turntable so you can know if that scratch skips. It helps a lot, especially on the valuable stuff.

So 1 or 2 marks would be VG+?

And what is "Groove wear"

Are these pictures accurate? They give visual examples of grading at the bottom.

I think that offers some decent pointers, but the pictures never really can do a record justice, I myself can only tell the condition of a record by holding it in the right light and moving it around to notice imperfections, but even then, it's not always correct; I've had records that looked NM but played more like VG or less with plenty of surface noise, despite looking shiny and new. The only advice I would give is to grade conservatively until you are comfortable with it, and like someone else said, if there are really valuable records involved, get a turntable so you can playgrade (heck, you might even pick up this great hobby Very Happy).

Yeah I know. I need one. What would a decent price to pay for one? Or maybe I could look for one on Craigslist and trade some of my records.

I'd grade what he calls VG+ as VG, and what he calls VG as VG-. It's interesting that he puts those photos up, though, and helpful; based on it, I'd have a problem buying his records.
