Hi Everyone. If one has two copies of the exact same record of Elvis, one in mono and one in stereo, and both records are in the same condition, which record is more valuable? I am wondeing about the lps:

Girls Girls Girls
Roustabout
Elvis for Everyone
Paradise, Hawaiian Style

Thanks!

As a general rule, early stereo are more valuable and later monos. Early on, 1958 stereo was introduced and very few were pressed compared to mono. The tipping point was about 1967 where the roles were switched and mono was being phased out.

As for the above, Girls! Girls! Girls! was released in 1962 and the stereo is far more valuable $300 with the calendar (Living Stereo was the first press) $80 for the Long Play mono. (an extra $150 for the calendar)
Roustabout, 1964, the stereo with white text on label is far more valuable $600 vs 1st press mono $100.

Keep in mind that these are book values (latest Goldmine) and that they apply only to US pressings and your mileage may vary.

Also, I realized this whole operation is silly. Just go online (Popsike, eBay etc) and see what these are actually selling for.

Hi and thanks for the notes. By "drunken stereo" do you mean the reprocessed stereo with prefixes like LPE?

The letters spelling STEREO at the bottom of the disk label are staggered instead of aligned.

Right.

Rechanneled stereo pressings made prior to 1963 had

STEREO

at the bottom of the label in staggered print...like this one:

Hi and thanks for the notes. I have no iway of checking the record labels on these lps, they are all sealed from a collection I bought years ago. I was deciding if I was going to sell a few off.

I've seen those, but not very often (although I love the idea of calling it 'drunken stereo').

So are you saying all of the records with that kind of stereo on the label are rechanneled?

That was RCA's "logo" for rechanneled stereo.
Their true stereo records were labeled "LIVING STEREO" and simply had those words at the bottom of the label.

In 1963, RCA Victor changed their labels. Instead of "LIVING STEREO" for stereo and "Long 33 1/3 Play" for mono, they began putting "STEREO" and "MONO" at the bottom of the label -- in normal print.

Reissues of the earlier Presley albums with "MONO" at the bottom are much harder to find than original copies. These reissues are believed to have been pressed at the Hollywood plant only.

I've learned something new. Thanks.
