It's typical New Orleans jazz, and especially the instrumental version of 'Jack the Knife' is nice.

I have to respectfully disagree with you here...There is nothing "typical" about Wilbur and Sidney De Paris.

These tracks were released on an Atlantic LP in 1959 (SD 1318), with the same title. The songs were recorded over two sessions in NYC at Engineering Society Hall on December 8, 1958 (which produced "Frankie And Johnny") and April 20, 1959 (which produced "That's A Plenty", "Hesitatin' Blues" and "Mack The Knife").

Sometimes the sleeve notes are more interesting than the pic or label.

Those are some of the great dixieland revivalists on that LP...and this was one of the earliest of those revival groups. Here's the American cover for any who want to see it...

All three volumes had a San Francisco scene on the cover. in addition to this one, Volume two had a cable car cresting the top of a hill and volume three was a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge.

I couldn't really get into the music, but the aesthetics are pretty nice.

That's a MUCH better cover than the U. S. version. I never liked the Cartoon cover on the Columbia issue.

Thanks for posting, j loop.
