It's been a while since I visited Barrie, as he lives 110 miles away. Barrie and his wife A.B. have an exhibit of their art on display at a gallery in Thermopolis, Wyoming. There was an artist's reception this past Friday evening. I left my wife to deal with our current litter of five Mini Aussie pups and made the two hour trip to attend the reception. It was great to see Barrie and A.B. and their work is simply beautiful. A.B. does the paintings, primarily pastel, charcoal, watercolor & ink, while Barrie creates frames that complement the work wonderfully. A.B. prefers a realistic style, and often combines that with fantasy themes.

See their webpage here: http://merglennstudios.com/

After the well-attended reception, I spent the night at Barrie's place in Kirby, twelve miles away. It was great seeing my friend and talking about music and life in general. Barrie has stopped the constant hunt for records that many of us engage in. He's focused more on creating art & frames, although he continues to spin many records from his collection.

I thought some of you might be wondering "what's Goldfish up to?", and he's doing well.

Glad to hear that. I hope he stops by here at some point (and Barrie, if you're reading this, give me a heads up if you ever do an art show in the Chicago area).

I knew Barrie was an artist but I don't think I ever stopped to actually look at his stuff. I really like the style his paintings have, and that "Aren't We A Pair" on the homepage is great. And I can empathize with wanting to take a break from collecting and actually listen to what I already have in my collection, it's already at the point where I'll probably never get around to listening to everything I have.

Kirby is a small town, population 92, and home to Wyoming Whiskey, the state's first and only whiskey distillery.

Laughing

There's also Butch's Place in Kirby. A good place to eat. It's not unusual for the population of Kirby to more than double with a good night's business at Butch's.
