Has the stereo version of Del Shannon's Big Top album Runaway ever been counterfeited?

If so, how can you tell the difference between a counterfeit and an original?

Thanks in advance.

Thought I'd bump this one up. I'm starting to think that there aren't any notable counterfeits out there.

This will make someone I know very happy.

i'm afraid i have bad news, i remember in the early 80s the stereo version of this lp was considered kinda rare and then someone found boxes of them in a warehouse. if you ask neal i think he'd remember the details.

No bad news there (although the info is appreciated). The value isn't really an issue. Personally I've never seen any copy of this album up close before, and hearing that it's true stereo is a very nice touch.

Since there are counterfeits of other albums out there, I thought I'd ask to see if this one had ever been messed with. It seems like it is an original, which is very cool.

Popsike lists 23 copies that have sold on eBay since 2005. Prices paid range from $101 to more than a thousand dollars, depending on condition.

http://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=del+shannon+runaway+stereo&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=dprice&x=0&y=0

So, it's rare, bit not as rare as it was pre-internet.

No reproductions/counterfeits/reissues on vinyl that I am aware of. here is some more info: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/del-shannon.207717/page-3

Hope this helps,

NEAL

Thanks for the info, Neal. I'm pretty sure it's the real deal.

I'm fine with whatever value. I"m just tickled pink to have an actual copy of the record itself. I finally started getting into Del's music a couple of years ago. The guy was wayyyy underrated.

Del was ALWAYS one of the best. Find the Sire two-record compilation from the '70s (?): some really fine stuff not easily found elsewhere (at least not until CDs).

NEAL

PS: Elvis does a lovely reading of "Runaway" from 1969 on his ON STAGE album . . .

I'll keep an eye out for that one, Neal. I've got the Troggs comp on Sire that I believe is part of the same series. I think I've seen other ones they did for the Pretty Things and the Turtles.

For the time, they were pretty impressive sets.

Thanks again.

First of all, I haven't seen any fakes. I have seen a few genuine copies of the LP.

These have the BellSound stamp in the matrix (trail off) of the record.
On the cover, the word "stereo" is embossed -- as you'd find on an early Atlantic/Atco stereo album (e.g., Bobby Darin).
