How can you tell where an RCA record was pressed? Specifically "Angola" as in the country, not the city in Indiana with the great all you can eat buffet at the truckstop...Is it a code in the deadwax?...

We don't see many "Angola" questions around here. RCA's midwest pressing plant was in Indianapolis which is in the center of Indiana and Angola is way up near Michigan. It might help if you gave us the artist and release date. I am sure that RCA didn't own a pressing plant in Angola, they would have contracted that out to press 6 or 7 copies for the rich guys in Luanda. The folks in the countryside would have needed a dog chasing a chicken on a treadmill to power up their turntable.

RCA Angola records were pressed by Telectra, a Portuguese company in this Portuguese colony.

Today the Portugese have of no lpnger Angola as a colony. However there are still close links between the two countries. In Portugese record shops you will very often find a section with music from Angola (and another, bigger one with music from Brazil, the largest Portugese speaking country in the world).

Or at the very least, a trained monkey to turn the crank on a windup gramophone. Wink

They kept making Jim Reeves 78 rpm's in South Africa for years after RCA stopped using that format elsewhere just because of his popularity in the tribal lands
