Ebay can be quite entertaining. I can't see anyway that this is a butcher.

And they took close-ups of just about every part of the cover except where the black triangle is supposed to be...

I see that he no longer is trying to push this as a butcher cover. Somebody has probably told him what he had. Originally he listed this as a second state butcher.

I'll go better than him. I will guarantee that his cover is NOT a second-state butcher cover. Look around the edges -- where the front slick meets the back slick. The background under the slick is WHITE. That's because the front slick is on top of the (folded-over) back slick, and the back slick is white. That doesn't happen with a butcher cover, because the butcher cover had a gray background, and parts were darker colors (e.g., the band's pants).

Sales of genuine butcher covers within the past month:

FIRST STATE
Stereo: $14,500 in NM- (but the seller was from Cyprus, lowering the sale price)
Mono: None Sold

SECOND STATE (paste-over)
Stereo: $760 in VG+; $675 in about VG+; $405 in VG
Mono: $1559 in VG++ (shrink); $1000 in VG++; $325 in VG-; $199 in G+

THIRD STATE (peeled)
Stereo: $1050 in VG+; $631.88 in VG
Mono: $981.50 in VG+; $960.88 in VG+; $490 in VG; $143.73 in G-; $128.01 in fr; $95.34 in pr/fr

These prices indicate steady demand in all grades, and the values most definitely are not falling.

i got 320 for the last one i had auctioned off and my friend finally got 500 for his near mint one. all the beatles and E stuff previously thought to be rare have declined drastically. i just dumped all of mine and got maybe 15 to 20% of what i would have 30 - 40 years ago. only the very rare items of the beatles and E are still selling for what they brought preciously.

Looks like another case where the internet wins out if you're looking for as much $$$ as possible when selling stuff.

mine were auctioned on ebay by a company that does this commercially. but i did get within 100 bucks of the highest sale for my "xmas is funky" lp. win some loose some, that's why i usually sell in bulk lots. you can't expect to get max price for everything you auction.
